EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - An Evansville family is sharing their gratitude after making a 911 call no parent ever wants to make.

With the family’s permission, the Evansville Fire Department shared their story on Facebook.

Earlier this month, fire crews responded to a call for a 2-month-old baby that had stopped breathing.

Thankfully, the baby began breathing again before crews arrived.

“His parents had just been through something no parent ever wants to experience, and while our crews cared for their little boy, they also took the time to reassure and support his family,” says the fire department.

EFD officials say the baby boy’s mom reached out to them to say thank you.

“They didn’t have to support us the way they did, with the immediate praise and reassurance, but it truly helped us more than anything that night. They will always be a part of his story,” she said.

Fire officials say his parents wanted to bring snacks and a thank-you card to the crew at Station 4.

“That gesture, along with the kind words they shared with us, is a pretty special reminder that people remember how you treat them, especially during a difficult moment,” they say. “And to this little boy and his family, we’re rooting for you”
