21-year-old run over in road rage incident sparked by revving motorcycle, police say
Chandler, Ariz. (AZFamily/Gray News) - The family of a 21-year-old motorcyclist who police say was intentionally run over in a road rage incident is speaking out as their loved one was taken off life support.
Dezjon Hamilton, 21, was left brain dead after police say he was intentionally run over in a road rage incident last Wednesday in Chandler. His family said he was taken off life support Saturday night.
“No one really teaches you how to grieve your own brother, especially your older brother,” said his sister, Layla Hamilton. “It’s like the sun doesn’t shine anymore because my brother was the sunshine of my life.”
The family says Dezjon Hamilton and his girlfriend were about to find out they were expecting their first baby.
“Dezjon was a young man with his whole life ahead of him, a life full of dreams, laughter, and a kindness that stayed with you long after he left the room,” wrote his family on GoFundMe.

Court documents state last Wednesday’s incident started when Dezjon Hamilton, who was riding a motorcycle, “excessively revved” his engine while stopped at a red light in front of 29-year-old Gustavo Elias’ SUV. This led to a confrontation between the two drivers.
Police say Elias intentionally ran over Dezjon Hamilton and is now facing felony charges. Elias, who is a Mexican citizen, allegedly admitted to drinking around 12 beers and using cocaine before getting behind the wheel.
Motorcycles revved in Chandler this week as the biking community gathered to show support for the Hamilton family.
Dezjon Hamilton and his father, Antwone Hamilton, shared a passion for motorcycles, with the father teaching his son how to ride a few years ago.
Antwone Hamilton stepped away from riding after surviving a crash of his own.
“I was still a rider at heart, and he exemplified that,” he said of his son.
He is calling what happened outrageous and urging drivers to slow down, share the road and respect motorcyclists.
“It’s OK if you might be a few seconds late. It’s not worth a life. And if you’re angry about something, how about you just park and take a minute?” he said.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help the Hamilton family with medical bills and funeral expenses.
