ISP: Coach didn't meet with cops before suicide

PIKE COUNTY, IN (WFIE)- Correction: According to Todd Ringle with Indiana State Police, Marty Deputy did not meet with ISP before he committed suicide.

Previously: Tuesday was a troubling day for staff and students in Pike County, Indiana.

14 News has learned former assistant football coach and teacher at Pike Central Luke Musselwhite, 26, turned himself in Tuesday afternoon.

Musselwhite resigned from his teaching position just prior to the start of this school year.

Police say that during October and November 2007, Musselwhite sent over 200 text messages to a 17-year-old student.

Investigators say several of the text messages sent to the female student were sexual in nature.

He was released after posting a $2,500 cash bond.

State Police also say there has been an ongoing investigation into another Pike Central teacher.

All this comes as the community learned the head football coach and teacher, Marty Deputy, committed suicide early Tuesday morning.

Pike County students were let out early this afternoon.

The superintendent told our reporter that there was no way to have a normal school day.

In addition to his coaching duties, Deputy, 31, was an English and Biblical Literature teacher.

Friday night's game has been canceled and grief counselors are on hand at the school.

Previously: Pike County Schools are dismissing early today.  Elementary schools are getting out 1:15, middle school and high school students will get out at 1:00.
