MUHLENBERG CO., KY (WFIE) - In Muhlenberg County, a family's dog is taken out of its yard after a post on social media said the animal was being neglected.

Our newsroom received phone calls from people around the country, emails, and Facebook messages saying a dog, named Oscar, in Central City was being mistreated.

Muhlenberg County Dispatch began receiving calls around two weeks ago from people around the country, reporting Oscar was being abused.

Oscar's owner, Craig Keys says, the dog was hit by a truck two years ago and broke its paw. We're told the dog has nerve damage to its paw and has no feeling.

Both Central City Police and Muhlenberg County Humane Society went out to Keys' house to investigate. They found Oscar had food, water, shelter, and showed no signs of neglect.

A Breckenridge County woman named Melissa Fitterer tells us someone on social media messaged her saying Oscar needed help. Fitterer tells us she saw a picture of an open wound on Oscar's paw and the dog was living outside when there was snow on the ground.

Fitterer says she drove an hour and a half to the Keys' house. Nobody was home.

She says she went in the backyard and took Oscar. Fritterer says she later took Oscar to the vet where she says the dog was given pain medicine and anti-inflammatory medication for its paw.

Fitterer says she still has Oscar and he's in good condition.

Central City Police say trespassing and theft charges against Fitterer are pending. The Key family says they want Oscar returned to them.
