Billionaire from Evansville to spread the wealth
EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - A billionaire who grew up in Evansville is now making waves for how she wants to spread the wealth.
Cari Tuna is a 29-year-old former Wall Street Journal reporter and is the co-founder of philanthropic organization Good Ventures.
Her husband, Dustin Moskovitz, is a co-founder of Facebook.
Tuna is also a graduate of Signature School, and was a parishioner at Aldersgate United Methodist Church on Evansville's east side.
The story began in 2010, when the two become the youngest couple ever to sign on to the Giving Pledge, the campaign started by Warren Buffet and Bill Gates, that encourage billionaires to give away most of their wealth.
Forbes estimates Moskovitz is worth about $8.1-billion.
So far, the two are considering giving away millions of dollars every year, starting this January, to the areas of their main interests: U.S. policy, global catastrophic risks, science and international aid.
We reached out to a friend and fellow parishioner of Tuna's, Lynn Renne.
She tells us Tuna is one of the most down to earth and kindest person she's ever met.
Renne also says it's no surprise to anyone in the Evansville area to hear of her generosity.
We also reached out to Tuna herself, she respectfully declined to comment.
