EPD: Man found badly beaten

An arrest has been made in the beating of an Evansville man.

The beating happened just 2:00 a.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of Linwood.

Police say it took them a while to determine the victim's identity because of his severe injuries.

David Dejaun Pike is in jail on robbery and aggravated battery charges for injuries to 28-year-old Timothy Morton.

Police say they found Morton lying in the middle of South Linwood Avenue with his shirt pulled over his wounded head.

Witnesses saw pike running away from the scene with the victim's pants. after beating him and stealing his wallet.

EPD tells 14 News this severe of an injury is unusual in a robbery situation.

"He was severely beaten. We were concerned about him even making it through the night. His prognosis has turned for the better, so we feel better about his outcome but it was a pretty severe beating," said EPD PIO Karen Kajmowicz.

Morton is being treated for serious injuries at Deaconess Hospital.

Pike is in the Vanderburgh County Jail on $250 thousand bond.
