DAVIESS CO., KY (WFIE) - The Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport is close to reaching 10,000 passengers in a year for the first time in nearly a decade, and reaching that milestone could mean up to $1 million for the airport.
If the airport falls short of that 10,000 passenger goal, even by one person, that amount drops to just $150,000.
The airport is making a late push to reach the 10,000 passenger mark by adding four more flights to Orlando on Allegiant Airlines in late December.
The airport says it is short by about 1,000 passengers right now but 10,000 should be much easier to reach next year.
Currently travelers can fly to Nashville three times a day on Kentucky Skies and Allegiant has two regularly scheduled flights to Orlando a week.
The last time 10,000 people flew out of Owensboro in a year was back in 2000.
