EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - FEMA has approved federal help for parts of Kentucky hit hard by this year’s deadly winter storm.

Governor Andy Beshear says President Trump and FEMA have signed off on public assistance for at least 18 counties impacted by January’s ice and snow storm.

The storm brought significant ice, up to 9 inches of snow in some areas and dangerously cold temperatures. It claimed the lives of more than 20 people.

At the height of the system, Team Kentucky sheltered more than 900 people in warming centers across the state.
