‘It hurts really bad’: 10-year-old boy killed while playing outside with friends
LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) - A 10-year-old boy in Nevada was killed while he was outside playing with his friends.
The crash happened just before 7 p.m. on March 5 near a busy intersection.
Officials said Simeon Young was struck and killed by a car while crossing the street in front of his mother’s apartment. His grandfather, identified as Tray Riley, said Simeon had been outside playing with friends and told his mother he would be right back.
Simeon’s mother was inside with her four other children.

His grandfather said the driver was not impaired and now has to live with the crash for the rest of his life. He said the loss has devastated his family, but his heart also goes out to the driver.
“It hurts, it hurts really bad… because the whole thing to it is that we can look up and down the street here and it’s not even safe for adults, let alone children… and why is it that a child or an adult has to lose their life before something’s done about that,” Riley said.
Riley said he wants the city to be more proactive, not reactive, in addressing road safety.
He is calling for flashing lights and additional crossing options at intersections like this one. He is urging officials to act before another family is affected.
The family is grappling with the loss, saying that Simeon was a loved child with a bright future ahead.
