GCSO warning public of fake arrest warrant scam
GIBSON CO., Ind. (WFIE) - Gibson County Sheriff’s Office officials are warning citizens of a new scam involving fake United States District Court arrest warrants.
According to a release, the fake arrest warrants claim to be issued for failing to appear as a witness or for jury duty and use official looking United States District Courts forms, indicating they were issued by the United States District Court.
Officials say neither the court, nor any other law enforcement agency, would ever email or call someone to request the payment of a fine for failure to appear for jury duty.
They also say court officials would never ask for personal information, such as a social security number, over email or the phone.
If you’re contacted by someone requesting payments, immediately contact the United States District Court Clerk’s Office at 877-377-1219, and tell them that you may have been a target of juror fraud.
Officials say you can also report a scam or suspicious communications to the Federal Trade Commission.
