School bus driver found at fault for crash that killed 12-year-old girl, authorities say
LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) — Authorities in Las Vegas say a school bus driver involved in a collision that killed a 12-year-old girl has been found at fault.
Las Vegas police say the crash occurred Oct. 6 at about 3:30 p.m. at Bradley Road and West Tropical Parkway.
Haylee Ryan was riding her bicycle that afternoon when she and the school bus collided. A second vehicle, a Chevy Tahoe, was also involved.
According to police, the front side of the school bus struck the left handlebar of the girl’s bike, causing the right handle to crash into the Tahoe that was parked in a bike lane.
An incident report says Haylee passed the Tahoe on the left, but the school bus driver did not give her enough space. Authorities said the driver continued, and the rear tires hit the girl.
Both vehicles remained on scene, according to the report.
Haylee was transported with serious injuries to an area hospital, but she died the next day.
Authorities said multiple witnesses saw the crash that day, with police noting the ongoing investigation found the bus driver at fault, but no enforcement actions have been immediately taken.
A candlelight vigil was held for Haylee at Lief Middle School over the weekend.
