Police officer accused of breaking into home looking for wife involved in affair
LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) - A Las Vegas police officer reportedly broke into a home where he thought his wife was having an affair.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced the arrest of Officer Dylon Carden on Monday.
He was booked into the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center for one count of home invasion and burglary.
Authorities said the initial call came in early Saturday morning regarding a home break-in.
The caller told police he heard knocks at his front door starting at 2:05 a.m. He was alerted by his dogs.
The man said he did not answer the door because he was not expecting anyone. But the knocks became more aggressive and the person eventually kicked in the front door.
According to a police report, the 911 caller grabbed a gun and told the person at the door that if they came any closer, they were going to get shot, and that’s when they left the scene.
Police said the man told them that he knew the person at his door, later identified as Carden, as his co-worker’s husband.
According to investigators, a vehicle matching Carden’s was seen in the area at the time of the reported crime. Footage from neighbors showed his car in the neighborhood before speeding away.
Carden’s wife told police that the two were divorcing and that they both had been cheating on each other, police said.
Officers said the 911 caller told them that Carden was insecure and believed he was having an affair with his wife.
Investigators said Carden declined their interviews regarding what happened until he was with an attorney.
An arrest warrant was issued, and Carden was arrested at a relative’s home in the area.
Carden has been employed with the department since 2023.
Authorities said he will be placed on suspension of police powers without pay pending the investigation.
Carden posted bond with his next hearing scheduled for April 8.
