LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) - A teaching assistant within the Clark County School District is accused of having a relationship with a high school student.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, 20-year-old Jerusalem Roman Garcia is facing a sex crime charge that involves a minor.

Police said her arrest came after they visited Eldorado High School on Aug. 23 where a student told them that her ex-boyfriend was in a relationship with a teacher.

The student was reportedly informed of the relationship by Garcia’s younger sister.

Detectives said they interviewed the male student about the possible relationship with Garcia and he told them that the two had met at a party in May and connected on social media.

The teacher’s aide and student went on about 11 dates over three months, according to police.

The male student told officers that he would pick up Garcia at her place because she did not have a car and the two would kiss when out on a date.

Garcia’s arrest report stated that police were able to confirm messages between the student and Garcia because her phone number was linked to her employee profile.

Police said during an interview, Garcia admitted to having a “loving” relationship with the student and it was something she still wanted to pursue after her arrest.

The 20-year-old teacher said the two did not have sex because of the student’s age and her job.

When Garcia completed her witness statement, officers shared they observed her messaging someone on Instagram where they believe she was discussing the incident and “aligning stories.”

Garcia’s next court date is scheduled for Sept. 30.
