EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - A former employee of an assisted living facility in Evansville is facing several charges after authorities say she stole medication meant for patients.

25-year-old Myah Samples is charged with prescription fraud and possession of a controlled substance.

Investigators with the Indiana Attorney General’s Office say Samples was a licensed Qualified Medication Aide.

They say she she worked at Heritage Center on West Buena Vista Road for nearly seven months before she was fired in 2022.

Investigators say an employee noticed 30 Percocet pills that belonged to a resident were missing.

They say a page of the log, where the medication would have been documented, was also missing.

Authorities say camera footage was reviewed and showed Samples removing a page from the log and hiding the pills.

As she was getting fired, officials say Samples admitted to taking the pills and apologized.

During a later interview with investigators from the Attorney General’s Office, authorities say she told them she used to be addicted to pills, and another aide had shown her how to steal them.

She claims she never actually ingested the pills and instantly regretted taking them.

Samples was arrested Tuesday morning and released on a $750 bond.
