Body found hanging at Carmi Post Office
CARMI, IL (WFIE) - A person was found hanging outside the Carmi Post Office Monday morning.
Around 5 A.M. someone reported a car blocking access to drop off mailboxes at the S. Walnut location.
The owner of the car was contacted, and she discovered her husband was not home. She went to the scene with an officer. Upon inspecting the vehicle they found information that lead officers to believe the man intended to, or had already harmed himself.
At almost the same time, before the search for the man even began, a body was discovered hanging outside the Post Office.
The Chief of Police says there are basement access stairs with a guardrail. The rope was hung from the stairwell.
The man's identity has not been released at this time.
