Five Arrested in Reverse Prostitution Sting
(Editor's note: The following is a release from the Evansville Police Department)
In an effort to curb the practice of prostitution in the N. Fares area of Evansville, police patrol officers, along with vice detectives, performed a prostitution detail aimed at eliminating the sources of business.
Utilizing an undercover female officer, officers ran a detail aimed at arresting men who frequented the N. Fares area and solicited prostitutes working the area. Police have found that arresting the same known prostitutes time after time has had little effect in ending the practice. Officers instead concentrated their efforts on eliminating the men who pay for sexual services and allow the women to continue making money in their trade. Police operated the "sting" from 7:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m on a Saturday night. In the three-hour period, officers arrested five men who offered the female officer money for sex. The men were all cited with misdemeanor citations and given a date and time in which they will have to appear in court to answer for their charges. Officers and vice detectives have indicated that this type of detail will continue in the future until the "business" of prostitution is eliminated.
