EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Last week, a ribbon cutting and a dedication ceremony was held for the Stone Family Center for Health Sciences, which is the new downtown Evansville medical school.
In my opinion, the completion of this impressive facility is a proud moment for our community.
The new educational and research facility is a collaboration between the University of Evansville, the University of Southern Indiana and Indiana University. It will train health professionals in fields including medicine, dentistry, physician assistant, nursing and occupational therapy.
There will also be partnerships with hospitals in Evansville, Jasper, and Vincennes. The school will expand community health with an IU dental clinic. There will also be research focusing on early onset Alzheimer's and autism.
Its goal is to increase the number of health care providers trained in the region, so they ultimately may choose to stay and practice in Evansville and the surrounding communities.
What was once a vision is now a reality.
I applaud our leaders that made this happen and for William and Mary Stone for their generous gift which supports the vision of a healthier community.
