PGA Tour Player Wives give back to Easterseals
NEWBURGH, IN (WFIE) - The United Leasing and Finance Championship is about much more than golf.
Some of the golfer's wives made a stop at Easterseals in Evansville Wednesday morning..
The Pros and their families will tell you the tour life and living on the road isn't for everyone.
"It lets us let loose in a couple of hours in a week, that sometimes are really stressful," said Kyle Yip, chairperson for the PGA Player Wives Association and wife of PGA Tour Player Ryan Yip.
Yip says she joined the Wives Association to enjoy some down time for herself and uplift others.
"Sometimes it just puts another perspective on life," Yip smiled. "Knowing there's bigger things out there, and it just lets us relax and have fun for a couple of hours."
The group connected with kids at the Easterseals Rehabilitation Center, a nonprofit that works with over 5,000 children and adults with disabilities from a 30-county area in the Tri-State.
"As tour wives, we're always on the road," Yip explained. "So, what we like to say is, wherever we're at that week, is our home. So we like to reach out to children in our home for that week."
The group made the 'road' a little easier for Easterseals, after donating dozens of children's books from United Leasing & Finance and a $1500 check to the preschool and day care centers there.
"The kids have just had a blast, and I think the golfer's wives had too," said Easterseals President Kelly Schneider.
Regardless of the material things, it's time spent that makes all the difference for the children.
"I mean, it's so rewarding. It's awesome," said Yip.
"We really appreciate them coming here and spending their time," said Schneider. "I'm sure they could be doing other things, but spending time with the kids really was fantastic."
Last year the Golf Gives Back Foundation awarded its first grant to Easterseals for $50,000. Easterseals is using those funds to build an art enrichment center for its daycare that serves over 140 local kids.
