JASPER, IN (WFIE) - We have an update on a hotel coming to Jasper.
Officials broke ground on the multi-million-dollar project day.
The turnout and excitement surrounding the official groundbreaking for the New Fairfield Inn & Suites a Marriott property was something you couldn't miss if you were in Jasper. The Hotel is part of the River Centre project along the River Downtown.
The River Centre project will cost an estimated $30-million and it is just the beginning of the investments around Jasper, which has been described using the fly wheel effect.
"When you're putting all these pushes and shoves together that takes a long time to start," said Mayor Terry Seitz. "We are really now culminating a lot of the things that began several years ago and we are flying we're on a roll."
This will make the sixth hotel in the Jasper area, but research shows there is still a need for another because of all the big industry in the area.
The $8-million hotel is located right downtown along the river where the Jasper Cabinet Company sits. The hotel will have 80 rooms and should be done in a year. City officials say It'll be a great first impression for visitors.
Mayor Seitz Says that over the next two years over $200-million will be invested in other projects for the city.
