OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - A new parking ordinance in Owensboro is set to go into effect on November 1.
The city will return to the original fire code that allows no parking non-emergency vehicles in marked fire spaces and fire lanes.
Mayor Tom Watson told us the concern came from the fire department. Under the amended ordinance, people could park in a fire lane for up to three minutes if the vehicle was occupied.
The city said it was often abused and impossible to enforce. They also said it was inefficient for many business owners.
The amendment will be retracted on November 1 and Owensboro police will start actively enforcing the original rules.
