EPD investigating shooting near Fall Festival

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Police are investigating a shooting that occurred late Friday and resulted in one man being taken to the hospital.
According to the press release from the Evansville Police Department (EPD), a 51-year-old man was found around 11 p.m. on the ground of West Michigan Street, with a gunshot wound to his upper-torso. The gunshot victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.
The release states, sometime prior to being shot officers escorted the man out of the Fall Festival area for being intoxicated. The same individual was also involved in a theft from a food booth at the Fall Festival.
EPD does not believe the shooting is related to either of the incidents the man was involved in.
Despite being found in the area of the Fall Festival, EPD thinks the 51-year-old was shot after the festival closed for the night.
Investigators are working towards identifying a suspect based on the victim's statement. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call EPD at 812-436-7979 or WeTIP at 1-800-78-CRIME.
