NEWBURGH, IN (WFIE) - An elementary school set a school fundraising record on Friday.
Newburgh Elementary held its annual walk-a-thon. Over the past two weeks, students have been collecting donations from family and friends.
Last year the walk-a-thon raised more than $16,000. This year the school raised more than $25,000.
Organizers say it's a fun way for kids to be active while helping out their school.
"Newburgh does a lot of things throughout the year, which is healthy-lifestyle activities," Nicole Taylor, event organizer, explained. "We do all healthy snacks in our school. We have a Wildcat mile on the riverfront in May and so it really incorporates being a healthy school doing the walk and getting the kids outside being healthy and active is one more thing we do here."
This is the third year for the walk-a-thon and the money raised will go back into the school and classrooms.
