PERRY CO., IN (WFIE) - A Tell City man has been charged with murder.

According to Indiana State Police, authorities arrested 45-year-old Randal L. Coalter on Tuesday after a three-week long investigation into the death of 62-year-old David Weedman of Saint Croix.

State police say their investigation began on March 4 when Weedman's body was found. They say the initial reports indicated that Weedman killed himself, but we're told law enforcement investigated the death as suspicious.

State police tell us an autopsy later showed that the fatal wound sustained by Weedman wasn't consistent with a self-inflicted wound. Troopers then began investigating the case as a murder.

The investigation eventually led authorities to develop Coalter as a suspect.

We're told authorities found out that Coalter and Weedman had gotten into a fight at Weedman's home on March 1, the last time Weedman was seen alive.

According to a probable cause affidavit, an acquantance also told police they believe something happened to Weedman after Randal said they needed to keep their story straight or they are going to get him for murder.

He went on to say "I shot Dave in the face and I'll do the same to you if you don't stick to your story."

Coalter is being held in the Perry County Security Center.
