Names of Muhlenberg Co. shooting victim, suspect released

MUHLENBERG CO., KY (WFIE) - A Madisonville man is in critical condition after a shooting in Muhlenberg County.

It happened around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of New Cypress Road in Greenville.

We're told 51-year-old Michael McCool, who works for Aarons Rent-A-Center, went to the home of 74-year-old Cornelius Walker to collect money on a delinquent account. That's when police say Walker shot McCool.

McCool was flown to St. Mary's in Evansville. Hospital officials say he is in serious condition. A friend of McCool told 14NEWS Thursday that McCool is "making small strides in the right direction."

Walker was arrested and taken to the Muhlenberg County Detention Center and charged with assault.

Kentucky State Police is handling the investigation.
