OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - It's been a long time since Gabes Tower was a hot spot in Owensboro, but now people are starting to complain and the city is taking action.

The city started issuing citations for the owners because they weren't following city codes when it came to the buildings upkeep.

The owners had 90 days to get a proper permit that would state the whether the building would be updated or tore down. That 90 days ends July 1.

"It's one of those things that everyone seems to have an opinion on: whether it's a pro or con as to Gabes Tower," Stephen Lynn, assistant city attorney says, "But the city, we do hope that the owners take some quick actions to go forward with any plans that they have for the building.

Lynn says once July comes around, the city will take another look at the property and issue more citations if the owner still hasn't got the proper permits.
