Coroner: Child died several hours before body was found

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Evansville police are investigating the death of a toddler.
Family members tell 14NEWS 1-year-old Kaylei Carter was found dead in an Evansville apartment Wednesday morning.
According to police, just after 7 a.m. dispatch received a call about an unresponsive child in the 500 block of Jeanette Benton Drive. Officers and medical units responded, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the coroner's office, the child died around 1 a.m.
Police say the investigation is in the early stages and there is no information available about the cause or manner of death.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m.
