HENDERSON, KY (WFIE) - Methodist Hospital officials say their system is "up and running" after Friday's cyber attack.

Officials say the hack was the result of "ransomware" that made it through the hospital's email filter.  We're told hackers locked patients files and demanded money to regain access to them.

The FBI is investigating a very similar case of ransomware at a Los Angeles hospital. Officials say that hospital paid about $17,000 to those hackers for the access back to the patients files.

Methodist Hospital officials say they did not pay the ransom and they tell us no patient data or records have been compromised.

The investigation is ongoing.
