EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - One person was injured and a garage and motor home were destroyed following a fire in Vanderburgh County Saturday.

It broke out in the 1200 block of Baseline Road.

Many people took to social media, sharing photos and telling us they could see the flames from miles away.

Scott Township Fire Captain Nathan Stoermer says the homeowner was hurt when he tried to run back into the garage to put out the fire. He also tells us his crew had some obstacles that slowed them down. There were welding tanks and propane tanks in the garage that were exploding.

Baseline Road was closed while crews worked the scene, but was opened back up when they were finished.

Three chickens and a cat were able to escape the fire.

We're told the cause is undetermined because the damage is too extensive. The damage is estimated to cost about $200,000.
