GRADD holding open-discussion event about senior health care

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - Green River Area Development District (GRADD) will present the Senior Health Resource Forum from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday at the One Health Medical Office Building.

Area seniors, caregivers and healthcare providers are invited to come talk with a panel of professionals.

Speakers at the free event will include an attorney, a pharmacist, and representatives from home health, assisted living, long term care, hospice, Medicaid waiver (Consumer Directed Option), Senior Medicare Patrol, Owensboro Health Golden Partners, and the State Health Insurance Assistance Program.

One of the hot topics to be discussed is open enrollment for medicare, which is a federal health insurance program for people who are 65 years or older, certain people with disabilities, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease.

Here are the 4 different parts of medicare that outlined:

  • 1. Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) : This covers impatient hospital stay, care in a nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health cares.
  • 2. Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) : This covers certain doctors' services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services.
  • 3. Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage Plans) : This is offered by a private company that contracts with Medicare to provide you with all your Part A and Part B benefits.
  • 4. Medicare Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage) : Part D adds prescription drug coverage to Original Medicare, some Medicare Cost Plans, some Medicare Private-Fee-for-Service Plans, and Medicare Medical Savings Account Plans.
