BEAVER DAM, KY (WFIE) - A Nashville man is recovering in the hospital after an officer-involved shooting in Ohio County.

It happened on Sunday around 5:30 a.m. at the Travel Plaza in Beaver Dam.

Kentucky State Police say Central City Police responded to a report of shoplifting at Walmart when 43-year-old Jason Nash led them on a chase to the Travel Plaza.

There, KSP says Nash left his car, climbed on top of a parked semi, and threatened to shoot officers.

After multiple verbal commands from officers, police say Nash grabbed for a black object in his waistband before Central City Police Officer Brian Melton and Beaver Dam Police Officer Don Huber fired shots at him. He was struck once in the abdomen.

The black object in his waistband was later identified as a cell phone cover.

According to police, Nash was still non-compliant and one of the officers used a taser to get him to cooperate.

Nash was immediately taken to Owensboro Regional Health for non-life threatening injuries.

He is charged with fugitive from justice for robbery/assault, fleeing police, receiving stolen property over $1,000, and wanton endangerment.

Kentucky State Police is investigating the incident.
