Taking a Stand: Splash into Summer donation drive

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - The city of Evansville is starting the swimming season with a big splash.

On Friday, June 12, the city will launch the Splash into Summer Community Pool Drive to collect items for children to use at neighborhood pools.

The Splash into Summer donation drive will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Walmart on Evansville's east and west sides.

We are asking for your help.

Suggested donations include: new swim suits for the entire family from children sizes 4 to adult XL, beach towels, flip flops, and swim diapers are also welcome.

Items collected during Friday's donation drive will be distributed to city pools based on need.

Additional donations are welcome and can be dropped off at the Department of Parks and Recreation located inside the CK Newsome Community Center during business hours.

Tax-deductible cash contributions may be sent to the Evansville Parks Foundation, Inc.

Staring Saturday June 13, the city of Evansville will host Free City Pool Cookouts from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at a different neighborhood pool throughout the summer.

I applaud the following business for their support of this important community outreach: Vectren, Barry Plastics, Deaconess Heath Systems, Old National Bank, Bunny Bread, The Evansville Courier & Press and WIKY Radio.
