MUHLENBERG CO., KY (WFIE) - The Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Office is thinking about equipping their road deputies with body cameras.

The department is one of several in western Kentucky looking to purchase body-cams.

Muhlenberg County Sheriff Curtis McGehee says body cameras are a good tool for police organizations because they protect both the officers and citizens.

He believes body cameras would be positive for his deputies too.

"We want to maintain the highest level of safety for the community and our officers and we feel like body cameras could be beneficial to us, should a critical incident occur," McGehee told us.

Right now, McGehee says Central City is the only police organization in the county to have body cameras.

McGehee is trying to weigh the pros and cons, saying the only negative is the cost to purchase the equipment.

He says right now, the cameras would only be used for deputies on patrol.

Again, he says they're still considering the decision.
