Man pleads guilty in Evansville murder for hire case
EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - An Evansville man is sentenced in a murder for hire case.Mason Hughes changed his plea to guilty Friday afternoon.
A judge sentenced him to 60 years behind bars.
The 20-year-old Hughes was accused of shooting 68-year-old Gilbert Dossett in May 2014.
Police said 47-year-old Brenda Dossett offered to buy a car for Hughes in exchange for killing her estranged husband.
According to authorities, Brenda Dossett wanted the $42,000 payout from the victim's insurance policy.
She pleaded guilty to murder in November 2014 and received a 60 year prison sentence.
Gilbert's daughters say now they can move forward with their lives, but they'll never forget their dad.
"It's very surreal to be their in the courtroom with the young man that murdered our father. But the fact that life does go on and we all have each other to lean on, it's nice to know that that chapter is closed," says Dossett's daughter Erica Kinsler.
The judge in that case addressed Mason Hughes near the end of the hearing saying, "one day you will look in the mirror and realize you did this. And it will haunt you for the rest of your life."
