DAVIESS CO., KY (WFIE) - The Daviess County Sheriff's Office has released the names of the two victims in Saturday evening's deadly car accident.
The wreck happened near Stanley, KY in the 7800 block of Highway 60 W, just before 8 p.m.
Deputies say a vehicle driven by 30-year-old Josh McDaniel was traveling west on Highway 60 when he crossed over the center line, striking another vehicle that was operated by 20-year-old Taylor Simmons, who was driving east bound.
Simmons, and 24-year-old Jamie Brooks, who was sitting in the back seat, were both pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner's office.
Officials say alcohol may be a contributing factor.
The passenger of the vehicle, 20-year-old Bradley Hagan, and McDaniel were transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital by ambulance for non-life threatening injuries.
Deputy Duane Harper said he will continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
"He thinks he fell asleep," said the deputy. "He said he had been out and he had had something to drink and that's why right now I am listing it as alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor."
Deputy Harper said his next step is drawing up search warrants to check McDaniel's toxicology, and the data box in his car to see exactly what happened when the car crashed.
