GIBSON CO., IN (WFIE) - Fire officials are investigating a fire that broke out in Oakland City Tuesday morning.

Fire crews from Somerville Fire Department, Buckskin Fire Department, and Columbia Township were all on scene around 7:00 a.m.

The fire started on country road 850 East, about 1 mile west of Mackey.

Somerville fire department official said the home was vacant and no one was around the area when crews arrived.

The closest occupied home was about a quarter mile down the street, but was no affected by the fire.

This is the second blaze to break out overnight in Oakland City.

Byron Christie, fire captain with Colombia township, worked both fires and said it is unusual for the city.

"It's an odd occurrence. I mean it does happen sometimes. but most of the time it's odd", Christie said.

It took the crews a few hours until they could enter the vacant home due to a main gas line. From there, they were able to completely take out the fire.

The fire investigator on the scene said it could take a few days to know the exact cause.
