The body of a Martinsville man, who was murdered in Warrick County in February, has been released to his family.

Joseph Nelson's sister, Jacquie Woodard, tells 14 News the release of her brother's body starts the next phase in the grieving process.

She says funeral arrangements have been put on hold until his release and now they are facing another struggle.

She says the funeral costs are a large burden on the family.

Jacquie says during these past two weeks they have been holding close memories of Joseph.

She tells us the last time she talked to Joseph, he told them he was going to move back to Martinsville and get a job so he could spend more time with his 7-year-old son.

"We don't understand why it had to happen," said Jacquie. "It should have never happened. If he was supposedly messing around with somebody we could understand him getting beat up or getting dropped off somewhere but to actually kill somebody over something is the most horrible thing anyone would ever have to go through. He took away a great dad, nephew, son, and a brother. We're not going to get that back."

If you would like to help with funeral expenses, donations are being accepted at any Home Bank in Martinsville under the name Jacquie Woodard.
