No charges in pig beating case

The Daviess County Sheriff's Office says it has wrapped up its investigation of the videotaped beating of a pig and no charges will be filed.

Deputies were notified about the video earlier this month after it was posted on the Facebook page of an Owensboro resident.

The Sheriff's Office says the men pictured in the video are Burmese.

They do not speak English so the investigation had to be conducted through a translator.

Sheriff Keith Cain says killing a pig is a part of Burmese New Year's festivities, and reportedly it's an honor to be the person who kills the pig.

The man on the video beating the pig had purchased it for the celebration.

Sheriff Cain says there was no criminal intent or malicious behavior, and therefore no charges have been filed against the man.

He did remove the video from Facebook which he was told to do by the Sheriff's Office.
