An internal investigation has cleared an Evansville police officer of any wrong doing in the traffic stop involving an off-duty Evansville firefighter.

That firefighter fired back Monday night on his Facebook page with some strong words. It's the same Facebook page he used to share his story that went viral.

George Madison, the firefighter who was stopped by police last week, says he trusted the system and had faith in the leadership of law enforcement, but goes on to say, 'they threw me under the bus and have shown their true colors.'

Madison writes that an internal investigation released Monday night may have shown that no standard operating procedure was violated by the officer, but he writes his dignity as a human being was.

Evansville police cleared Officer Jasen Clegg of any wrong doing when he pulled over Madison for not stopping at a stop sign on his bicycle and for making what officers thought was an "aggressive hand movement."

Madison has said he was only waving at the officers. Madison made a formal complaint with Evansville police saying Officer Clegg was angry and aggressive, even unprofessional, during that stop.

Madison gained a lot of public support after posting a picture and his story on Facebook.

"With social media being as big as it, our officers have to realize that is our new reality. Things that wouldn't have gone public until maybe after an investigation and someone was not happy with our findings, that stuff will be out there now for public opinion to come in before we're even given an opportunity to address it," said EPD Sgt. Jason Cullum.

The police department says Madison's complaint was based upon his opinion of the officer's communication skills and not his actions.

Madison told 14 News that he's praying about how to take the next step.
