PRINCETON, IN (WFIE) - Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Indiana has announced the will hire another 90 production team members by the end of July.
It's part of their preparation for the all-new Toyota Highlander later this year, as well as hybrid and export models.
By the end of July, Toyota Indiana will have hired 446 production team members, 46 more than planned when the $400 million Highlander expansion was announced in February 2012.
Toyota needs the additional staffing because of continued strong sales of the current model Highlander and anticipated strong demand for the next generation.
The Gibson County plant also will build the midsize sport utility vehicle for the Australian and Russian regions and hybrid models.
Toyota Indiana President Norm Bafunno attended the New York International Auto Show in March when the new Highlander was publicly revealed. "The atmosphere was incredible," he said. "Our customers, both repeat and new, are very excited about this completely redesigned vehicle, and the excitement is growing in our plant, too."
The expansion, which will increase Highlander production by 50,000 units, is a great opportunity for Toyota Indiana, Bafunno said. "Toyota has great confidence in our team members, who are investing their time and talent to ensure we have a successful launch, while, at the same time, responding to our customers' continued demand for the current model," he added.
Toyota Indiana hires production team members from its variable workforce, which is provided by Aerotek.
