WEBSTER CO., KY (WFIE) - A wooded area in Webster County is smoldering, Monday morning, after a massive fire broke out Sunday.

Transportation cabinet officials say the entire stretch of Kentucky 109 on the north side of Providence has now reopened after being shut down so that firefighters could battle the fire.

The fire started in a wooded area in Providence on Sunday afternoon.

It burned well over 200 acres, but the fire chief told us no structures were in danger.

Fire fighters have now left the scene, but an officer remains. He is driving up and down the stretch of Kentucky 109, watching for hot spots.

The investigation into what caused the fire will now continue.
