OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - Owensboro Transit System will offer free bus rides during the Twelve Days of Christmas, starting Saturday morning.

Owensboro Transit System has offered these rides right before the holidays for years now, and with cold weather setting in, people like Richard Harrison plan to take advantage of it.

"I got to, I got to. It helps a whole lot of elderly people."

Starting  December 10th, through Friday, December 23rd, anyone can ride any route absolutely free.

Transit officials say this is just a way to show their appreciation to all their patrons, especially during a busy time of year where many are strapped for cash.

"It's kind of a way to say thank you to our patrons that ride the bus system," said Michael Hughes with Owensboro Transit.

Michael Barner says he started riding the bus after his car broke down.

"It's convenient. I have one actually on the corner of my block, and it gets me to work in 30 minutes."

Barner says for him, bus fare isn't expensive but it's helping many save.

"With it being the holidays it's also a blessing because sometimes not everybody has that dollar."

You can ride the bus between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Owensboro Transit does want to remind everyone that the buses do not run on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, or New Years Day.
