Affidavit: Fairfield woman faked cancer to profit from fundraisers
FAIRFIELD, Ill. (WFIE) - We have now obtained the affidavit in a theft case we told you about Wednesday.
This is a story we first started looking into almost a year ago, and now, charges have been filed.
46-year-old Stacey Robbins is charged with theft and deception.
According to an affidavit, the victims include the students and staff at the Fairfield grade schools.
It shows fundraisers were held to raise money for cancer treatments - which Robbins didn’t need.
There was also a GoFundMe created.
Court documents show some people gave hundreds of dollars.
We reached out to the creator of the GoFundMe who has not commented.
Today, Robbins was removed from the staff directory of the Fairfield schools website.
School officials say they have no comment at this time.
The affidavit also says she received donations from members of the Roads Church in Norris City, IL.
Church members declined to comment.
We also spoke to many people in the area who knew of the situation but nobody wanted to talk about it on record.
Just a few hours ago, court records updated to a show defense attorney, Troy Parrish, was added to her case.
Robbins’ first court appearance is set for May 26th.
