OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - One man was taken into custody after Owensboro Police say they used hostage negotiators to convince him to peacefully surrender during a standoff Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly before 10 a.m., officers tried to arrest a man accused of fraudulent firearm transaction at a local gun show.

Police say the suspect, 32-year-old Grant Givens of Owensboro, barricaded himself inside a home on the 4100 block of Ryeland Point.

Givens showed authorities a gun and told them he wouldn’t be taken alive, according to a press release.

We’re told hostage negotiators were able to calm Givens down and convince him to surrender peacefully.

Police say Givens was taken into custody and also mention they found a gun inside the home.

He was booked into the Daviess County Detention Center and faces charges of Fraudulent Firearm Transaction and two counts of Violation of Kentucky EPO/DVO.

A neighbor next door tells us this situation was out of the ordinary.

”I feel like I was in a movie. This doesn’t happen here. I mean we get like 20 trick-or-treaters on Halloween, so this is a real quiet street. Nothing happens,” says Eddie Shock.

Shock says he and his wife Terri were returning home from taking their dog to the groomer when they saw police cars blocking their driveway and snipers down the street.

“I thought, ‘Oh no, it’s fixing to hit the fan,’ but it didn’t, thank God,” he said.

Hear police explain what was happening shortly before 12:30 p.m.:
