Recreational dispensary in Grayville opens Saturday
GRAYVILLE, Ill. (WFIE) - Nearly four years following the state of Illinois legalizing recreational marijuana, the immediate Tri-State area is seeing its first recreational dispensary.
“There’s not very many around as far as dispensaries [go] in [the] Southern Illinois region to begin with; so we’re trying to create that top notch customer service vibe with a smile,” said Terrabis Illinois General Manager Josh Finney.
Finney says being located just next to the state line is huge for local customers.
“You don’t have to travel far and wide,” Finney said. “We have local access for people on this side of the state which is beautiful.”
Finney says it’s a big opportunity for this part of the state. Finney says they’re expecting anywhere between 1200 and 1500 customers daily.
“Kentucky, Indiana, wherever you come from, as long as you’re 21 or older, present a valid state ID, we’ll get you taken care of,” Finney said.

The shop’s located just off of Interstate 64 right before you get into Grayville. The land they built on had previous ideas for development, including a prison.
“Instead of housing people who have been in trouble for cannabis and issues with that in the past, here we are,” Finney said.
Indiana and Kentucky aren’t far from Grayville, but recreational marijuana remains illegal in both of those states.
So if you want to travel with it out of Illinois, just remember it’s also illegal at the federal level as well. Finney says they’ll serve anyone 21+ with a valid state ID, but it’s the customer’s responsibility from there.
“It’s up to you the individual, the grownup, to make sure you’re within the limits and laws,” Finney said.
Employing over 30 local folks, Finney says the plans are to keep expanding, bringing more revenue to the county, and employing more locals in the facility.
“The community has been excellent here,” Finney said. “That’s been such a supporting cast.”
Terrabis Illinois officially opens Saturday morning at 9.
The shop will have a grand opening ceremony from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., featuring games and giveaways.
You must be 21 years of age, and have a valid state I.D. to attend the event as well.
