Name released of person killed in Owensboro bypass crash
OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - One of the people hurt in a crash last Wednesday in Owensboro has died, and officials have released his name.
The Jefferson County Coroner says 42-year-old Maikel Valdes-Diaz died Sunday at a Louisville hospital.
According to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were sent to the 1700 block of the bypass for the crash last Wednesday afternoon
They say a car and a Jeep were heading eastbound, when the car side-swiped the Jeep, sending both toward the median.
The Jeep was able to gain control, but the car rammed into the median and ended up hitting Valdes-Diaz, who was a pedestrian, before overcorrecting and rolling the vehicle, deputies say.
Deputies say the car then went up in the air and hit a pickup truck driving westbound on the bypass.
The two people inside the passenger car were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, deputies say.
They say a portion of the westbound bypass was shut down for nearly three hours.
