Death investigation underway near Oakland City motel
OAKLAND CITY, Ind. (WFIE) - Indiana State Police confirms a death investigation of a woman near the Diplomat Motel in Oakland City Tuesday afternoon, just off South State Road 57.
The Gibson County Sheriff’s Office says they received a call of a dead body in the woods at 3:30 p.m.
ISP Trooper Todd Ringle says that the body was found in a wooded area behind the motel.
Oakland City University Police and Oakland City Police assisted the Sheriff’s Office in maintaining the crime scene.
Indiana State Police interviewed residents at the Diplomat Motel. Our crew saw people setting up banks of portable lights to assist in the investigation.
The FBI and Oakland City Police are assisting the Gibson County Sherriff’s Office on this investigation.
”We’re going to take our time,” said Gibson County Sheriff, Bruce Vanoven. “We’re going to have the crime scene people come in. They’re gonna go through the scene. We’re going to do this right and we’re going to determine what happened. If there’s foul play, then we’re going to be coming for the people who did this.”
Officials are still working to find the cause of death.
