EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - A fire broke out just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday night in the 1400 block of North Elliott Street.

That’s near Stringtown Road.

Fire officials say neighbors next door heard popping. They when outside, saw flames and called 911.

They say several others then also called 911.

Officials say there was heavy fire when they arrived, and it spread to the outside of two neighboring houses.

Four people were able to escape, but two of them had to crawl out of a window on the second floor onto the roof of the porch.

Officials say they were helped down by firefighters.

They say a total of six people have been displaced, and the American Red Cross was called to help.

Officials say one firefighter was checked out by paramedics after receiving an electrical shock. He was then able to continue fighting the fire.

This fire broke out just one block away from the site of the warehouse fire on North Garvin Street.

The cause of the fire on Saturday has yet to be released.
