UPDATE: Victim’s name released in Clayton Ave. shooting
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Evansville Police were called a little after 9 a.m. Sunday for a shooting in the 1600 block of Clayton Avenue.
It was reported that a man shot and killed a woman.
The coroner says the victim is 37-year-old Gamia Lechelle Stuart.
According to an affidavit, the Stuart was on the phone with a friend during the incident.
Authorities say, 44-year-old Clifton Fletcher was arrested overnight. He is accused of shooting Stuart, and is facing a murder charge.
The affidavit shows the Stuart told her friend she was being followed by Fletcher.
Officials with the Evansville Police Department say when they arrived, the victim had been shot multiple times and died on scene.
Officials say Fletcher and Stuart had a relationship of some kind with each other.
According to a press release, officers found the vehicle Fletcher fled in unattended. The doors to the vehicle were locked, but officers could see a handgun in the front passenger seat.
According to an affidavit, Fletcher’s police records revealed he pointed a gun at Stuart and threatened to kill her and himself back in April of this year.
Fletcher is being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail and charged with murder.

Monday, a small memorial was placed outside Stuart’s door.
