OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - A Daviess County man is facing a murder charge after a shooting that happened on Thursday.

According to the Owensboro Police Department, officers responded to a shooting on the 2700 block of West 10th Street around 11:40 a.m.

Police say when officers arrived on scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound and began administering life-saving treatment. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he ultimately died from his injuries.

“This is what we know as the Mechanicsville addition, it’s always been quiet and peaceful,” said Dugan Best Neighborhood Alliance Chairman Bobby McCormick.

A lifetime Owensboro resident, McCormick says a informed community relies on the back of community members.

“Because if you have crime in the neighborhood and everybody’s together, when something goes on, then they alert everyone else,” McCormick said.

Owensboro PD says they were able to gather information from neighbors and nearby witnesses.

“Through doing a neighborhood canvass, again talking to individuals in the area, we were able to pretty quickly piece some things together,” said OPD Public Information Officer Andrew Boggess.

Police had a suspect in custody later that same day. 33-year-old Keith Bryant of Sorgho.

“Detectives were quickly able to determine that Mr. Bryant was going to be a potential suspect,” Officer Boggess said. “Again, we were able to work with the [Daviess County] Sheriff’s Office to locate him out in the Sorgho area, and take him into custody pretty quickly.”

Even with Bryant in custody, McCormick says he hopes that the neighborhood will come together in times of need.

“In order to have a safe neighborhood, we gonna have to pull together,” McCormick said. “As long as we afraid and don’t talk about it, then things keep happening and pretty soon you’re gonna lose your neighborhood.”

Owensboro Police released his name Friday. They say the murder victim is 42-year-old Christopher Green.

During the investigation, OPF officials say detectives identified a suspect as 33-year-old Keith Bryant of Sorgho, and deputies with the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office eventually found and detained the suspect.

Bryant was taken into custody and charged with murder.

He’s currently being held in the Daviess County Detention Center.
