EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - An Evansville man is in jail after officers say he shot a woman Monday afternoon.

Officers were called to the 1300 block of East Illinois Street around 3 for a shots fired report.

Officials say the victim called authorities and said she had been shot inside a home but was able to get out.

She told officers she thought the suspect was still inside.

An EPD Crisis Negotiator arrived on scene and attempted contact with the offender, identified as 47-year-old Steven Kinslow.

Officers say they were then notified that a child was inside the home with Kinslow.

We’re told he walked out of the home with the child where he was taken into custody.

The child was unharmed.

Officers say they were able to get a search warrant for the home where they found blood in the living room, a gun tucked underneath clothing, shell casings and blood. Officers also found a magazine for the gun that was buried separately in the clothing.

Officers say the victim had non-life-threatening injuries.

Kinslow is now facing several charges, including aggravated battery.

His bond is set at $20,000 cash.
